Long Beach

In the last year, the city of Long Beach has spent more than $3 million to support communities hurt by inequities, including five more staff positions to promote health equity, increased staff for the Office of Equity and begun to redesign the Police Department approach to community safety.

Those are a few of the accomplishments listed in a 136-page report about the first year of a Framework for Reconciliation approved on June 23, 2020, and its companion action plan, the Racial Equity and Reconciliation Initiative, approved in August. That initiative was in response to the protests and violence of May 2020 — following the murder of George Floyd.

That initiative included a requirement to report progress each year. That report will be presented
