Shannon Bradley was recently named the first full-time head of diversity, equity and inclusion at HCA Houston Healthcare, the regional system of the national health care operator HCA.

Bradley, an assistant vice president, had coordinated the health care provider’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts for two years while also running a division that focused on improving health outcomes for Medicaid, low income and uninsured patients. The national attention brought to diversity, equity and inclusion following the murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer led HCA to make the position full time in July 2021.

Bradley, 40, recently spoke with the Houston Chronicle about being able to focus full time on diversity, equity and inclusion, the importance of these issues to corporate and community life, and her plans to make HCA’s local leadership more diverse and collect data to better understand health disparities among racial and ethnic groups.
